German plantmaker SMS Group has announced that Chinese steel producer JISCO Carbon Steel has successfully commissioned the world’s first integrated production line combining compact strip production (CSP®) and hot strip mill (HSM) modes at its Jiayuguan works in China.

The integrated CSP®-HSM line increases capacity and product flexibility

SMS Group stated that an official ceremony held on February 2 marked the start of production on the upgraded and expanded line at JISCO Carbon Steel’s Jiayuguan plant. With the commissioning of the new line, JISCO has increased its annual hot rolling capacity from 2 million mt to 4.5 million mt, while also expanding its product portfolio toward higher value-added steel grades.

The plantmaker noted that it supplied the full automation scope for the integrated line, enabling rapid switching between CSP® and conventional HSM production routes. This setup supported a fast ramp-up and stable operational performance from the outset.
