According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, in the first eight months of the current year Japan's ferrous scrap exports amounted to 6 million mt, increasing 8.5 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Meanwhile, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 643,273 metric tons in August this year, up by 7.5 percent month on month and down 11.4 percent compared to August 2012.
In the first eight months of this year, Japanese scrap exports to South Korea totaled 3.5 million metric tons, up 7.2 percent over the first eight months of 2012, while exports to China amounted to 1.83 million metric tons, decreasing by 6.2 percent compared to the same period of the previous year. Vietnam imported 358,107 mt of steel scrap from Japan in the first eight months, up 126 percent compared to the same period of 2012.
