Japan’s scrap exports decline 6 percent in 2017

According to Japan’s customs data, Japan exported 8.05 million mt of ferrous scrap in 2017. The volume of scrap exports dropped by 6 percent year-on-year as Japan exported approximately 8.56 million mt of ferrous scrap in 2016.

The primary destinations for its scrap exports were South Korea (3.95 million mt, 49 percent), China (1.81 million mt, 22 percent), Vietnam (1.52 million mt, 19 percent), Taiwan (0.37 million mt, 5 percent), Bangladesh (0.20 million mt, 2 percent), Indonesia (0.07 million mt, 1 percent), US (.06 million mt, 1 percent), and others (0.07 million mt, 1 percent).
