According to statistics released by Japan's Ministry of Finance, Japan's ferrous scrap exports totaled 461,586 metric tons in September this year, falling by 3.56 percent month on month and down 29.63 percent compared to September 2009.
In the month in question, China increased its ferrous scrap imports from Japan by two percent month on month to 227,961 metric tons, while a drop of 24.78 percent was registered compared to September 2009. South Korea imported 181,920 metric tons from the same source, down 5.82 percent month on month and down 46.62 percent year on year.
Meanwhile, in the January-September period of 2010, Japan's scrap exports amounted to 4.89 million metric tons, declining by 37.27 percent year on year.
In the first nine months of this year, Japanese scrap exports to China totaled 2.04 million metric tons, while exports to South Korea amounted to 2.54 million metric tons, decreasing by 52.05 percent and down 15.54 percent respectively, both compared to the corresponding period of the previous year.
