Japan's HR steel strip shipments up 15.7 percent in May from April

In May this year, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet shipments showed zero growth compared to the previous month and were down by 0.1 percent compared to the same month last year, amounting to 804,000 metric tons. 70.7 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 29.3 percent were made to the export markets, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data. 
 
In May of the current year, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet production amounted to 790,000 mt, down 7.3 percent month on month and declining 2.8 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in May, Japan's hot rolled strip shipments amounted to 1.69 million mt, up 15.7 percent from the previous month and rising by 3.9 percent year on year. 20.7 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 79.3 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan's hot rolled strip production amounted to 1.64 million mt, growing by 8.2 percent month on month and down by 1.9 percent year on year.
