Japan's HR steel strip shipments down 6.9 percent in Jan from Dec

In January this year, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet shipments decreased by 1.97 percent compared to the previous month and were down by 10.5 percent compared to the same month last year, amounting to 797,000 metric tons. 77.7 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 22.3 percent were made to the export markets, according to the Japan Iron and Steel Federation (JISF) data. 
 
In January of the current year, Japan's hot rolled plate and sheet production amounted to 821,000 mt, up 1.4 percent month on month and declining by 6.5 percent year on year.
 
Meanwhile, in January, Japan's hot rolled strip shipments amounted to 1.44 million mt, down 6.9 percent from the previous month and rising by 0.7 percent year on year. 24.4 percent of shipments were made to the domestic market, while the remaining 75.6 percent were made to the export markets. In the given month, Japan's hot rolled strip production amounted to 1.54 million mt, rising by 0.5 percent month on month and up by 0.52 percent year on year.
