Japan’s automobile output decreases again in May

Japan's automobile production in May this year was recorded at 489,723 units, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA). The figure represents a drop of 219,390 units or 30.9 percent compared to the same month of 2010. May was the eighth consecutive month for which a decrease on year-on-year basis was recorded. Meanwhile, Japan's automobile production in May showed a 67.71 percent increase on month-on-month basis.


Domestic sales in May stood at 237,364 vehicles, down 33.4 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year.


Meanwhile, the country's automobile exports in May were recorded as 202,833 units. Compared with the 340,721 unit total recorded for the same month of the previous year, this is a decrease of 137,888 units or 40.5 percent. In May, exports recorded a year-on-year decrease for the third consecutive month.
