Japanese industrial output down 1.7% in Nov from Oct

In November 2012, Japan's seasonally adjusted industrial production decreased 1.7 percent from the previous month, while the original index indicated a decrease of 5.8 percent compared to the same month last year. The country's seasonally adjusted industrial production had trended up on month-on-month basis in both September and October 2012.

According to the revised Indices of Industrial Production report published by Japan's Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, in November the Japanese iron and steel production index decreased six percent year on year, while Japan's seasonally adjusted iron and steel production index fell 2.3 percent in November compared to October. Meanwhile, in November Japanese producers' iron and steel shipments fell by 3.7 percent and iron and steel inventories were down by 2.7 percent, both compared to the previous month.

In November, the index for fabricated metals production decreased 4.3 percent year on year, while Japan's seasonally adjusted fabricated metals production index fell 4.7 percent compared to October.

The seasonally adjusted crude steel production index including semi-finished steel in Japan increased by 0.7 percent in November compared to the previous month and was down by 1.6 percent on year-on-year basis. Producers' crude steel shipments, however, were up by 13 percent in November compared to the previous month and up 5.9 percent compared to the same month last year.
