Japanese auto output up 1.8 percent in August

Japanese automobile production in August this year totaled 704,096 units, increasing by 12,447 units or 1.8 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. August was the first month which saw an increase of production after Japan's automobile output had decreased for ten consecutive months on year-on-year basis, according to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA).

Domestic sales in August this year in Japan stood at 329,838 vehicles, down 22.4 percent as compared with the same month of the previous year. In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in August amounted to 363,772 units, up by 25,849 units or 7.6 percent, increasing as compared to the same month of the previous year after five consecutive months of decrease. The revenue generated by these exports amounted to $11.7 billion, including $8.4 billion for vehicles and $3.3 billion for parts. This is an increase of $1,7 billion or 17.4 percent as compared with $10 billion recorded for the same month of the previous year.
