Japanese auto output up 1.5 percent in 2014

According to the data provided by the Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association (JAMA), in December last year Japanese automobile production (including passenger cars, trucks and buses) totaled 766,945 units, decreasing by 19,775 units or 2.5 percent compared to the same month of 2013, decreasing for the sixth consecutive month on year-on-year basis. Meanwhile, in the whole of 2014 Japanese automobile production increased by 144,377 or 1.5 percent year on year to 9,774,558 units.
 
Domestic automobile sales in December last year in Japan stood at 431,918 vehicles, up 2.1 percent as compared with the same month of 2013. In 2014, Japan's domestic automobile sales increased by 3.5 percent year on year to 5,562,887 units.
 
In the meantime, the country's automobile exports in December amounted to 381,113 units, up by 1,837 units or 0.5 percent year on year. In 2014, Japan's automobile exports decreased by 208,998 units or 4.5 percent year on year to 4,465,635 units.
