Izhora Pipe Plant (Izhora), a pipe producing subsidiary of the Russian steel producer Severstal, has announced that it successfully completed testing of its pipes in the framework of a tender for the supply of pipes for the construction of the Bobannenkovo-Ukhta gas pipeline.

To participate in the tender, Severstal and Izhora had started to master the production of pipes from K65 (X80) grade of steel in 2007. In January 2008, Severstal's Cherepovetsk plant produced 25 K65 grade steel strips with wall thickness of 27.7 mm, which were used for the production of pipes at Izhora.

As a result of the successful tests, Izhora was able to agree on technical conditions for pipe supplies with Gazprom.

Russian pipe producer Vyksa and other Japanese, Korean, and German pipemakers were competing with Izhora in this tender.
