VTG Europe Italy and the port of Trieste - one of Italy’s largest ports - have launched a new “Steel Train”, a freight train entirely dedicated to the transportation of steel.

According to Guido Gazzola, head of VTG Europe Italy, the “Steel Train” will not only provide a more sustainable way to transport steel, with the elimination of about 100,000 trucks from roads and the reduction of CO2 emissions by 20,000 metric tons within a few years, but it will also improve the efficiency of conventional trains and a reduce the wear-and-tear on infrastructure.
