According to the Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in the January-April period this year Italy's overall steel imports totaled 4.698 million metric tons, decreasing by 29.1 percent, while its steel exports amounted to 6.407 million metric tons, up 9.3 percent, both compared to the previous year.
Italy's long steel exports in the given period totaled 1,1381,000 mt, up 18.5 percent, while its long steel imports amounted to 650,000 mt, down 27.6 percent, year on year. On the other hand, Italian flat steel exports in the first four months reached 2,900,000 mt, up 14.3 percent, while flat steel imports totaled 2,509,000 mt, down 34.7 percent, both on year-on-year basis.
