Italian scrap market continues to be supported by good demand

The scrap market in Italy continues to be supported by decent demand from local steelmakers, which in H1 this year have been mantaining relatively high levels of production - thus reports Assofermet, the Italian association of traders of iron, steel, non-ferrous metals, ferrous scrap, hardware and similar goods.

The month of June opened with good demand for scrap from the overall Italian steelmaking sector, and the prices of each category of scrap material have risen, although by small margins. The same movement has been seen for ex-US scrap

For the sixth month in a row scrap prices in the Italian market have only fluctuated by a margin of around 5-10 percent, making it easier for steel mills to manage their activities and cope with the market changes. This is the real news that needs to be underlined in the Italian scrap market, because in the previous three years the market had been characterized by great volatility.

Meanwhile, about 96,000 mt of pig iron and 53,000 mt of scrap arrived at Port Marghera, Venice in the month of May this year.
