Italian crude steel output down 35.5 percent in 2009

According to the statistics released by Italian steel producers' association Federacciai, in 2009 Italy's crude steel output totaled 19.74 million metric tons, decreasing by 35.5 percent compared to 2008.

Meanwhile, in December 2009 Italy's crude steel output amounted to 1.47 million metric tons, decreasing by 9.43 percent year on year and down 23.56 percent over the previous month.

Federacciai also released Italy's long and flat steel output figures for November 2009.

Accordingly, the country's long product output in the month in question totaled 1.02 million metric tons, declining by 16.4 percent year on year and down 13.27 percent over October. In the first eleven months of 2009, Italy's long product production declined by 34.2 percent year on year, reaching 10.48 million metric tons.

Meanwhile, in November Italian flat steel production decreased by 3.2 percent compared to November 2008, reaching 943,000 metric tons, and registering a month-on-month decrease of 3.58 percent. In the January-November period of 2009, Italy's flat steel output totaled 8.21 million metric tons, down 38.5 percent compared to the corresponding period of 2008.
