Several Ukrainian sources have reported that the Ukrainian steel producer Industrial Union of Donbass (ISD) is planning to start importing coking coal from the USA for its metcoke-producing subsidiary Alchevsk Coking Plant (AlchevskKoks), due to the tight supplies of this raw material in the Ukrainian domestic market.

According to the Ukrainian Coke Association (Ukrkoks) data, in 2008 AlchevskKoks plans to import about 1.5 million metric tons of coking coal.

Imports of coking coal from abroad will help AlchevskKoks to satisfy 20-25 percent of its coking coal needs.
