Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes down 0.5 percent in April

Iron ore shipments on the Great Lakes totaled 5.1 million tons in April, a slight 0.5 percent decrease compared to a year ago, according to a report today from the Lake Carriers’ Association (LCA). Shipments were, however, 18 percent ahead of the month’s 5-year average. 

Year-to-date the iron ore trade stands at 8.5 million tons, an increase of 3.3 percent compared to the same point in 2018.

The LCA said through April, iron ore shipments are 10.6 percent ahead of their 5-year average for four months of the year.
