Iran will add five million mt of crude steel to its existing capacity by the end of the current Iranian year, recently declared Ahmad Ali Haratinik, head of Iranian Mines and Mineral Industries Development and Renovation Organization (IMIDRO).

Iran already has a capacity of 10 million mt per year of crude steel. By the end of the current Iranian year 1387 (i.e. by March 20, 2009), this figure will be increased to 15 million mt per year after Hormozgan Steel Co. - a new plant located in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas - begins production operations and after development work at Esfahan Steel Co. and Khouzestan Steel Co. is concluded.
