Indonesia mulls safeguard duty extension for certain flat rolled products

The Indonesian Safeguards Committee (KPPI) has announced that it has initiated an investigation regarding the extension of the safeguard measures on imports of flat rolled products of iron or non-alloy, of a width of 600 mm or more, clad, plated or coated with aluminum-zinc alloys, to protect local market from serious losses.

The investigation was launched upon a complaint received from local producers PT BlueScope Steel Indonesia and PT Sunrise.

On July 22, 2014, for the imports of given products, the committee issued safeguard measures of IDR 4.99 million/mt ($373/mt) for the period between July 22, 2014 and July 21, 2015, IDR 4.31 million/mt ($322/mt) for the period between July 22, 2015 and July 21, 2016 and IDR 3.63 million/mt ($271/mt) for the period between July 22, 2016 and July 21, 2017.

The products subject to investigation currently fall under the Customs Tariff Statistics Position Number 7210.61.11.00.
