China starts AD probe on certain stainless steel imports from EU, Japan, Korea, Indonesia

China's Ministry of Commerce (MOC) has announced that it has started an antidumping (AD) duty investigation on stainless steel billet and stainless hot rolled coil (HRC) imports from the European Union (EU), Japan, South Korea and Indonesia.

The investigation was launched following the application lodged by Chinese steelmaker Shanxi Taigang Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. on behalf of the domestic stainless steel billet and stainless hot rolled coil industry.

According to the evidence provided by the applicant and the preliminary review by the Ministry of Commerce, the aforementioned imports from the EU, Japan, South Korea and Indonesia accounted for more than 50 percent of the Chinese market in the years 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017.

The products in question currently fall under Customs Tariff Statistics Position Numbers 72189100, 72189900, 72191100, 72191200, 72191312, 72191319, 72191322, 72191329, 72191412, 72191419, 72191422, 72191429, 72192100, 72192200, 72192300, 72192410, 72192420, 72192430, 72201100 and 72201200.
