India’s Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) has recorded its highest-ever annual steel production of 8.2 million mt from its domestic and overseas operations during the fiscal year 2019-20, up 12 percent year on year, according to a regulatory filing of the company. Its total steel sales during the fiscal year were recorded at 8 million mt, up 10 percent year on year.
The JSPL Group operates steel mills at Raigarh and Angul in India and also a plant in Oman.
JSPL’s operations in India recorded steel production of 6.3 million mt in FY 2019-20, up 13 percent, while sales were at 6 million mt, up 12 percent, both year on year. The company’s plate mill at Raigarh recorded its highest-ever annual production of 947,000 mt during the fiscal year, surpassing its previous record during 2018-19 of 840,000 mt, the company said.
“India’s largest blast furnace at the JSPL plant at Angul, Odisha, continues to produce more than 10,000 mt per day of hot metal and the world’s only syngas-based DRI plant was running well,” V R Sharma, managing director of JSPL, said.
Its overseas group company in Oman, Jindal Shadeed iron and Steel, recorded steel production of 1.87 million mt in the fiscal year of 2019-20, nine percent higher than in the previous fiscal year, the company statement said.
“The Oman plant has shown an incredible performance. The EAF in Oman produced 202,110 mt of steel in one month, which is again a record for a plant of its kind,” Sharma said.
