India’s Jindal Steel and Power Limited (JSPL) will commence production of fire-resistant special steel at its mill in the central state of Chhattisgarh, a company statement said on Monday, March 20.

It said that the company has received quality certification from the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) for production of BIS 15103 grade of special steel to withstand heat of up to 600 degrees Celsius for three hours and typically used in refineries, metro rails, power plants, industrial structures and commercial buildings.

JSPL said that present demand for this grade of special steel is met entirely through imports.
