India's finished steel production up 3.7 in April-January

India's finished steel consumption totaled 61.05 million mt in the first 10 months of the current Indian fiscal year (started April 1, 2013), with just a 0.5 percent year-on-year increase, according to provisional estimates released by the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) which is part of India's Ministry of Steel.

According to the data, the country's finished steel production rose by 3.7 percent year on year to 70.12 million mt in the first 10 months of the current Indian fiscal year. Among the main producers, state-owned steel producer SAIL recorded a rise of 5.2 percent in finished steel output compared to the same period of the previous fiscal year with 8.85 million mt, while the finished steel output of RINL rose by 3.2 percent to 2.30 million mt and Tata Steel's finished steel output increased by 19.8 percent to 6.23 million mt, both year on year.
