Indian steel production up 5.1 percent in H1 FY 2017-18

India’s steel production during the first six months (April-September) of the financial year 2017-18 was recorded at 52.08 million mt, up 5.1 percent compared to the corresponding period of the previous financial year, data released by India’s Ministry of Steel on Monday, October 9,  showed.

Indian steel consumption was recorded at 42.88 million mt during the first six months of 2017-18, up 4.3 percent over the corresponding period of the previous financial year, the data revealed.

However, according to the data, finished steel imports arriving in the country showed a rising trend, with imports recorded at 4.13 million mt during the April-September period, up 20 percent over the corresponding period of the previous fiscal.
