Indian auto industry starts FY 2012-13 with output growth

According to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), Indian motor vehicle production in April this year registered growth of 5.8 percent as compared to April 2011 with 1,721,627 vehicles produced. In the latest Indian fiscal year (from April 1, 2011 to March 31,2012), India's motor vehicle output amounted to 20.37 million vehicles, rising 13.8 percent over the previous fiscal year.

In April of the current year, motor vehicle sales in India increased by 10 percent year on year, while the country's passenger car sales in April increased by 9.3 percent and commercial vehicles segment registered growth of 4.37 percent, both on year-on-year basis.

Meanwhile, in April this year India's total motor vehicle exports grew by 1.3 percent year on year to 2.9 million vehicles. Passenger vehicle exports registered a year-on-year decline of 10.5 percent in April, while commercial vehicle exports decreased by 13.6 percent, both compared to April 2011.
