The World Trade Organization (WTO) has announced that India has notified the WTO that it requests dispute consultations with the US, asserting that the US did not comply with an earlier WTO dispute settlement body (DSB) ruling regarding the countervailing duties (CVD) imposed by the US on imports of certain hot rolled (HR) carbon steel flat products from India.

According to the WTO’s statement, in December 2014 its dispute settlement body ruled against the US imposing high duty on certain hot rolled carbon steel flat products imported from India and in March 2015 the US and India informed the DSB that they agreed that the reasonable period of time for the US to implement the DSB recommendations and rulings to reduce the high duties would expire on April 18, 2016. However, in its consultation request, India stated that the US had failed to meet the April 2016 deadline to comply with the DSB’s ruling.
