India-based NMDC’s iron ore output down 31.1 percent in April-May

Indian state-run iron ore miner National Mineral Development Corporation (NMDC) has announced that in May this year it produced 2.29 million mt of iron ore, falling by 24.7 percent from 3.04 million mt in May 2019. The company's iron ore sales in the given month amounted to 2.55 million mt, down 24.3 percent from 3.37 million mt in the same month of the previous year.

In the April-May period of the financial year 2020-21 (started on April 1, 2020), NMDC’s iron ore production totaled 4.09 million mt, declining by 31.1 percent year on year, while its iron ore sales totaled 3.93 million mt, down by 35.2 percent as compared to the same period of the previous year.

In the given period, NMDC's iron ore sales from its Karnataka mines amounted to 990,000 mt, falling by 22 percent, while iron ore sales from its Chhattisgarh mines decreased by 38.7 percent to 2.94 million mt, both on year-on-year basis.
