Global crude steel production for November 2007

Data released by the International Iron and Steel Institute (IISI) show that global crude steel production for November 2007 rose four percent year on year to 109 million metric tons. 

China is again the largest steel producing country with crude steel production of 39.6 million metric tons in November, an increase of 4.3 percent from a year earlier. Total production in the Asian region amounted to 60.2 million metric tons, up 3.6 percent on a year ago.

Germany produced four million metric tons of crude steel in November 2007, showing an increase of 2.4 percent year on year. Italy produced an estimated 2.8 million metric tons in the month in question, marking no change compared to a year ago. France produced 1.4 million metric tons, a decrease of 8.9 percent compared to the same month in 2006. Production in the UK was 1.2 million metric tons, 20 percent higher than November 2006. Total production in the EU-15 amounted to 14.5 million metric tons, up 2.8 percent on a year ago.

Brazil produced 2.8 million metric tons of crude steel in November 2007, an increase of 6.2 percent compared to November 2006.

Turkey's crude steel production in November rose 10.3 percent year on year to 2.1 million metric tons. Total production in the Other Europe region was 2.4 million metric tons, an increase of 4.7 percent year on year. 

The USA produced an estimated eight million metric tons in November 2007, registering an 8.5 percent increase year on year.
