The Brazilian state-owned energy research company (EPE) has approved a project, headed by Norway’s Equinor, for the transportation of natural gas from the Campos basin, off the coast of Rio de Janeiro state, to the national grid.
With total investments estimated at one billion US dollars, the project includes constructing a 204-kilometer (127-mile) pipeline with an average diameter of 18 inches and a wall thickness of 16 mm.
This configuration will require an estimated 40,000 mt of API grade steel heavy plates for its construction, which will be sourced and manufactured domestically.
With completion expected in 2028, the pipeline will deliver up to 16 million cubic meters of natural gas per day, equivalent to 15 percent of the Brazilian domestic demand.
Equinor, with a capital stake of 35 percent of the project, has as partners Repsol Sinopec (35 percent) and Petrobras (30 percent).
