French economic growth stable in Q1

In the first quarter of the current year, France's gross domestic product (GDP) remained stable quarter on quarter, according to the detailed statistics released by France's National Institute of Statistics and Economic Studies (INSEE). In the fourth quarter of 2013, a 0.2 percent quarter-on-quarter increase was recorded in French GDP.

During the first quarter, in France household consumption expenditure decreased by 0.5 percent quarter on quarter, after increasing 0.2 percent quarter on quarter in the last quarter of previous year. Meanwhile, France's import value increased by one percent quarter-on-quarter, after a 0.5 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in the previous quarter, while the growth rate of export value fell to 0.3 percent quarter on quarter in Q1, after a 1.6 percent quarter-on-quarter increase in the previous quarter.

In France, production in manufactured goods in the first quarter increased by one percent, notably in coke and refined petroleum, after remaining stable in the previous quarter. Construction output in France declined further by 1.5 percent in the first quarter of this year, after a 0.3 percent fall recorded in the fourth quarter of 2013, both quarter on quarter.
