French crude steel output up 1.3 percent in May

According to the latest data regarding crude steel production in France released by the French Steel Federation (FFA), in May this year French crude steel production amounted to 1.47 million metric tons, up by 1.3 percent year on year and up 3.85 percent month on month.

In May, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAF) fell 3.7 percent year on year, amounting to 570,000 mt, while steel production with blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 904,800 mt, increasing by 4.6 percent year on year.

Meanwhile, in the first five months of the current year, France's crude steel production amounted to 7 million mt, increasing 4.5 percent compared to the same period last year. In the given period, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAF) rose five percent year on year, reaching 2.8 million mt, while steel production with blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 4.23 million mt, increasing by 4.1 percent year on year.

The FFA also noted that domestic crude steel production in the first five months of the current was still 14.3 percent below the January-May 2008 production figure.
