French crude steel output down two percent in June

According to the latest data regarding crude steel production in France released by the French Steel Federation (FFA), in June this year French crude steel production amounted to 1.34 million metric tons, down by two percent year on year and 9.1 percent month on month.

In June, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAF) fell 4.8 percent year on year, amounting to 559,300 mt, while steel production with blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 781,100 mt, remaining almost stable compared to June 2011.

Meanwhile, in the first half of the current year, France's crude steel production amounted to 8.38 million mt, increasing 3.4 percent compared to the same period last year. In the given period, steel production in France using electric arc furnaces (EAF) rose 3.2 percent year on year, reaching 3.37 million mt, while steel production with blast furnace (BF) technology totaled 5 million mt, increasing by 3.5 percent year on year.

The FFA also noted that domestic crude steel production in the first six months of the current was still 16.2 percent below the January-June 2008 production figure.
