Evraz ZSMK starts coke battery repair

Evraz ZSMK, a Siberian steel division of steel and mining group Evraz, has announced that it has started the repair of its coke battery with the application of the ceramic welding method.

The repair will contribute to an increase of 135,000 mt a year in coke production, will reduce emissions into the atmosphere by 10 percent, and extend the service life of the equipment. Evraz is investing about RUB 165 million ($4.14 million) in the project.

In accordance with ceramic welding technology, the damaged area is treated with the help of a cleaning machine. After that special welding machines apply new material on the refractory work. The final operation is blowing of a special powder in order to seal all microcracks in the walls. The repair works are scheduled for completion in 2016.
