Russia’s Evraz Holding, one of the leading global steel manufacturers, proceeds with capacity expansion plan at its Russia-based ZSMK asset. The company has recently ordered from Italian plantmaker Danieli an innovative QSP-DUE (Danieli Universal Endless) plant for the production of high value-added products. The technology allows in a single thin-slab casting and rolling production line all the features that up to now have been developed using either coil-to-coil, semi-endless or endless rolling modes in separate rolling mills.
The QSP-DUE plant of Evraz will be capable of 2.5 million mt per year hot rolled coil production for strip from 0.8 mm to 16 mm thick and 950 mm to 1,700 mm wide. The system is able to operate with slab thickness from 100 mm to 123 mm, SteelOrbis has learned. In addition to the QSP-DUE plant, Danieli has agreed to supply a twin-station ladle furnace (310 mt) and associated equipment, which includes a fume-treatment plant and water treatment plant, according to the official statement.
As a result, Evraz has taken another significant step to start HRC production at its ZSMK unit, which is currently one of the key steel semis suppliers to the Asian markets. The company is able to sell annually around 3 million mt of billet and 2 million mt of slabs, SteelOrbis has learned. With the newly installed hot rolling line, Evraz is expected to sell HRC both locally and abroad with most of the export volumes to be supplied to Far Eastern markets. According to the preliminary schedule, Evraz expects to commission the hot rolling line in 2023.
