The European Steel Association (EUROFER) has filed a complaint with the European Commission seeking the initiation of a countervailing duty (CVD) investigation against certain hot rolled product imports from Turkey, according to the Turkish Steel Producers Association.

The complaint claimed that most of Turkey’s flat steel market is controlled by the state through tax support, eximbank programs, discounts for land, natural gas, electricity and water expenses for organized industrial sites, purchases of undervalued coal from the Turkish coal authority, investment stimuluses, etc., SteelOrbis understands.

The association said that EUROFER’s false claims highlight EU steelmakers’ aggressive protectionism policy.

Earlier this month, the European Commission initiated an antidumping duty investigation against Turkish hot rolled steel imports.
