Euro area construction output up by 2.0% in September from August

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 1.7 percent compared to August and was up by 4.2 percent compared to the same month of 2017. In August, production in construction decreased by 0.5 percent when compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in September rose by 4.6 percent compared to the same month of 2017 and was up by two percent compared to the previous month of this year. In August, production decreased by 0.6 percent compared to July, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in September increased by 1.4 percent month on month and was up 2.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region rose by 3.1 percent from August and by 7.7 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction went up by 2.2 percent month on month and surged by 4.3 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region grew by 1.8 percent month on month and advanced by 4.8 percent year on year.

As compared to September 2017, construction output in September this year increased by 25.8 percent in Hungary, by 25.7 percent in Slovenia and by 20.2 percent in Poland, while it decreased by four percent in Bulgaria and by 1.5 percent in Sweden, by one percent in Romania.

As compared to August, construction output in September this year increased by 3.7 percent in France, by 2.2 percent in Germany and by 1.8 percent in the UK, while construction output decreased by 2.1 percent in Bulgaria, by 1.2 percent in Slovenia and by 0.5 percent in Sweden.
