According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in October this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the euro area was up by 0.3 percent compared to the same month of 2018 and was down by one percent compared to the previous month. In September, production increased by 1.1 percent compared to August.
In the European Union member states (EU-28) the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector decreased by 1.2 percent compared to September and was down by 0.2 percent compared to the same month of 2018. In September, production in construction rose by 0.5 percent when compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, building construction fell by 0.9 percent month on month and was up by 0.2 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by one percent month on month and surged by 1.1 percent year on year.
Building construction in the EU-28 in October fell by 1.1 percent month on month and was down by 0.4 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 1.7 percent from September and increased by 0.4 percent year on year.
As compared to October 2018, construction output in October 2019 increased by 24.6 percent in Romania, by 20.5 percent in Hungary and by 3.1 percent in Bulgaria, while it decreased by 4.1 percent in Poland, four percent in Slovenia and by 2.6 percent both in Belgium and the United Kingdom.
As compared to September, construction output in October this year increased by 5.1 percent in Slovenia, by 4.1 percent in Sweden and by 3.2 percent in Hungary, while construction output decreased by 5.7 percent in Poland, by 3.4 percent in Romania and 2.8 percent in Germany.
