According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in October this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 1.2 percent compared to September and was up by three percent compared to the same month of 2017. In September, production in construction rose by 1.9 percent when compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in October increased by 1.8 percent compared to the same month of 2017 and was down by 1.6 percent compared to the previous month of this year. In September, production advanced by 2.1 percent compared to August, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in October decreased by 1.3 percent month on month and was up 2.4 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region fell by 1.1 percent from September and increased by 5.3 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction went down by 1.9 percent month on month and rose by 1.5 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 1.3 percent month on month and surged by 2.7 percent year on year.
As compared to October 2017, construction output in October this year increased by 19.4 percent in Poland, by 18.5 percent in Hungary and by 18.3 percent in Slovenia, while it decreased by 4.8 percent in Romania and by 3.3 percent in Sweden, by 2.9 percent in France.
As compared to September, construction output in October this year increased by 3.3 percent in Bulgaria, by 2.2 percent in Slovenia and by 1.4 percent in Slovakia, while construction output decreased by 5.9 percent in France, by 1.6 percent both in Italy and Romania.
