According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the euro area decreased by 0.7 percent compared to the same month of 2018 and was up by 0.7 percent compared to the previous month. In August, production fell by 0.8 percent compared to July.
In the European Union member states (EU-28) the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector increased by 0.3 percent compared to August and was up by 0.3 percent compared to the same month of 2018. In August, production in construction fell by 0.5 percent when compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, building construction increased by 0.6 percent month on month and was down by one percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.2 percent month on month and surged by 1.1 percent year on year.
Building construction in the EU-28 in September fell by 0.1 percent month on month and remained stable year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 1.8 percent from August and increased by 2.4 percent year on year.
As compared to September 2018, construction output in September 2019 increased by 28.9 percent in Romania, by 17.8 percent in Hungary and by 6.9 percent in Bulgaria, while it decreased by 10.0 percent in Spain, 8.1 percent in Slovenia and by 2.6 percent in France.
As compared to August, construction output in September this year increased by 6.3 percent in Slovakia, by 5.2 percent in Hungary and by 1.9 percent in France, while construction output decreased by 4.9 percent in Sweden, by 3.4 percent in Romania and 2.4 percent in Spain.
