Euro area construction output up 1.8 percent in April from March

According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in April this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 1.2 percent compared to March and was up by 0.9 percent compared to the same month of 2017. In March, production decreased by 0.8 percent compared to the previous month.

In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in April increased by 1.8 percent both compared to the same month of 2017 and the previous month of this year. In March, production decreased by 0.2 percent compared to February, according to the newly revised data.

Building construction in the EU-28 in April increased by 0.6 percent month on month and was up 0.7 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region grew by 3.4 percent from March and rose by 1.6 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction went up by one percent month on month and was up 1.8 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region advanced by four percent month on month and rose by 2.1 percent year on year.

As compared to April 2017, construction output in April this year increased by 16.3 percent in Poland, by 14.2 percent in Hungary, by 12.4 percent in Slovenia and by 10.4 percent in the Netherlands while it decreased by 6.4 percent in Sweden, by 4.6 percent in Belgium and by 3.4 percent in Spain.

As compared to March, construction output in April this year increased by 9.8 percent in Slovenia, by 6.5 percent in Hungary and by 3.3 percent in Germany, while construction output decreased by 3.6 percent in Spain, by 1.8 percent in Belgium and by 1.4 percent in Slovakia.
