According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in May this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 1.2 percent compared to April and was up by 2.6 percent compared to the same month of 2017. In April, production decreased by 0.8 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in May increased by 1.8 percent compared to the same month of 2017 and rose by 0.3 percent compared to the previous month of this year. In April, production increased by 1.4 percent compared to March, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in May increased by 1.2 percent month on month and was up 1.9 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region grew by 1.1 percent from April and rose by five percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction went up by 0.2 percent month on month and was up 1.3 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region advanced by 0.4 percent month on month and rose by 3.3 percent year on year.
As compared to May 2017, construction output in May this year increased by 30.3 percent in Slovenia, by 23.3 percent in Poland, by 15.2 percent in Hungary while it decreased by 4.1 percent in France and by 0.4 percent in Bulgaria.
As compared to April, construction output in May this year increased by six percent in Hungary, by 3.4 percent in Slovenia and by 3.1 percent in Germany and the Czech Republic, while construction output decreased by six percent in Slovakia and by 3.4 percent in France.
