According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in July this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-28) increased by 0.4 percent compared to June and was up by 3.9 percent compared to the same month of 2017. In June, production increased by one percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in July increased by 2.6 percent compared to the same month of 2017 and rose by 0.3 percent compared to the previous month of this year. In June, production increased by 0.7 percent compared to April, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in July increased by 1.7 percent month on month and was up 4.3 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region fell by 3.9 percent from June and rose by 2.1 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction went up by 1.9 percent month on month and was up by four percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region decreased by 4.4 percent month on month and fell by 1.6 percent year on year.
As compared to July 2017, construction output in July this year increased by 38 percent in Hungary, by 26.3 percent in Slovenia and by 16.6 percent in Poland, while it decreased by 17.4 percent in Romania and by 4.1 percent in Spain.
As compared to June, construction output in July this year increased by seven percent in Slovenia, by 4.6 percent in Hungary and by 3.8 percent in Slovakia, while construction output decreased by 9.1 percent in Romania, by 1.8 percent in France and by one percent in Poland.
