According to first estimates released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in September this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the
European Union member states (EU-28) decreased by 0.4 percent compared to August and increased by 0.6 compared to the same month of 2014. In August, production had decreased by 0.5 percent compared to the previous month.
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in September decreased by 0.4 percent month on month and increased by 1.8 percent year on year. In August, production had increased by 0.5 percent compared to July, according to the newly revised data.
Building construction in the EU-28 in September decreased by 0.1 percent month on month and was up 0.2 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region rose 0.3 percent from August and was up by 3.1 percent year on year. In the euro area, building construction fell 0.6 percent month on month and was up 1.6 percent year on year, while civil engineering output in the region increased by 0.3 percent month on month and by 2.4 percent year on year.
As compared to September last year, construction output in September this year decreased in Slovenia by 12.5 percent, in the UK by 4.1 percent and in Portugal by 3.2 percent, while an increase of 26 percent was registered in Slovakia, a gain of 10.2 percent was seen in the Netherlands, an increase of 8.1 percent was recorded in Hungary and a growth of 7.4 percent was recorded in Sweden.
As compared to August, construction output in September decreased in Slovenia by 5.2 percent, in Portugal by 2.2 percent and in Sweden by 1.9 percent, while an increase of 8.4 percent was registered both in Hungary and Slovakia and a gain of 2.1 percent was recorded in the Netherlands.
