The European Commission has initiated an antidumping investigation into certain welded tubes and pipes of iron or non-alloy steel from Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, and Russia.

Upon the complaint lodged on August 20, 2007, by the Defence Committee of the Welded Steel Tubes Industry of the European Union (the complainant), the European Commission (EC) has decided to initiate an antidumping investigation into welded tubes and pipes of iron or non-alloy steel from Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, and Russia.

The complainant has provided sufficient evidence that imports of the subject merchandise from Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, and Russia had adverse effects on the overall performance and financial situation of the EU industry.

Since there is sufficient evidence to justify the initiation of an investigation, the EC has decided to initiate an antidumping investigation for the imports of the subject merchandise from Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, China, and Russia to determine whether the subject merchandise is being dumped and whether this dumping has caused injury to the EU industry. The investigation covers the period July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2007.
