EU enlargement might put Russian trading under pressure
A recent study by the Centre for Economic Researh determine that the enlargement to take place in the EU next year, to the east of the
Europe will lead to
Russia face a series of new trade barriers in steel
trading. This situation might leave
Russia in a more dependent state on oil exports.
Eight of the ten candidates to join the EU in 2004 are central or eastern European states which were either former Soviet Union members or allies. According to the study, the new anti-dumping measures to be faced by
Russia are estimated to be around 16-21% in
Hungary, 5-7% in
Poland, 9-17% in Czech Republic, 23% in
Slovenia, and 2-9% in
Estonia.
