EU-27 construction output down 0.2% in July from June

According to a report released by Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the European Communities, in July this year the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in the European Union member states (EU-27) decreased 0.2 percent as compared to June and was down by 6.1 percent compared to the same month of the previous year. In June, production decreased by 1.4 percent compared to the previous month.
 
In the euro area, the seasonally-adjusted production of the construction sector in July fell 0.3 percent month on month and was down by 4.7 percent compared to July 2011. In June, production decreased 0.6 percent compared to the previous month, according to the newly revised data.
 
Building construction in the EU-27 in July declined by 0.8 percent month on month and was down 5.4 percent compared to July 2011, while civil engineering increased by 0.7 percent from June and was down by eight percent as compared to the same month of 2011.
 
As compared to June, construction output in July increased in Hungary by 8.7 percent, in Germany by 1.9 percent, and in Bulgaria and the Czech Republic both by 1.6 percent, while a decrease of 2.2 percent was registered in Italy, a decrease of 2.1 percent was recorded in Spain and a fall of 1.1 percent was registered in Sweden.
