Essar Steel launches second strand of its CSP plant

Gujarat, India-based steelmaker Essar Steel has commissioned the second strand of its compact strip production (CSP) plant which was supplied by German plantmaker SMS Siemag.

The first strand of the plant was commissioned in March this year and the third strand is expected to be installed in 2012, increasing the hot strip capacity of Essar Steel to 3.5 million mt.
 
According to the company statement, on the first day of commissioning, 2,400 mt of liquid steel was cast. Production on the second strand proceeded without any problems, with 75 percent of the rated capacity already achieved during commissioning.
