Last week, the Turkish Metal Union issued a strike decision as the collective labor agreement negotiations with the Turkish Employers' Association of Metal Industries (MESS) achieved no outcome, though they did not set a date for the strike. In response, MESS issued a lockout decision on Wednesday, January 22, with a date to be set later.

The companies to be affected by these decisions include steelmakers such as İzmir Demir Çelik and Borusan Mannesmann, and automotive companies such as Türk Traktör, TOFAŞ, Otokar and Ford Otomotiv.
