Despite dumping determination, China puts punishment on hold
In consequence of the complaint filed by the Shanghai-based largest Chinese steel producer
Baosteel to the former Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC)an antidumping investigation into imported cold-rolled coils have been initiated.
China's Ministry of Commerce (MOFCOM) determined imports of cold-rolled coils from five countries namely
Russia, South
Korea,
Ukraine,
Kazakhstan and
Taiwan back in 2001. According to statistics released by MOFCOM,
China's domestic level of self-sufficiency was only 49.95% during the 2001 period.
Production was 5.48 million tons, while imports amounted to 5.49 million tons.
The type of cold rolled coil products covered under the investigation are ordinary carbon steel, carbon steel with a low or ultra-low carbon content, or cold-rolled steel coils produced with micro-alloy steel with or without coating, less than 4 mm in thickness and regardless of their width, be it below or above 600 mm.
