On September 28, China's National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) approved the application of Sichuan Province-based steelmaker Dazhou Iron and Steel Group (Dazhou Steel) for its construction project for a steel rolling mill with an annual capacity of 1.2 million mt of rebar and wire rod.
The project includes the construction of a feedstock yard, a sintering machine, a 1,260 cubic meter blast furnace, a 120 mt converter and a set of continuous rod rolling compact production lines. At the same time, the company will eliminate two sintering machines, two converters, a blast furnace and a rod rolling line.
Dazhou Steel incurred great losses due to the devastating earthquake which hit Wenchuan, Sichuan on May 12, 2008.
